We’re excited to share that Mailen Design has once again been recognised for its innovative approach to sustainable commercial architecture, with Domus Campus nominated for Best Retrofit Innovation or Project at the 2024 Building Innovation Awards. This marks the fifth time Domus Campus has been shortlisted for an award this year, highlighting its impact and value as a remarkable example of sustainable architecture in London.
The Building Innovation Awards are particularly significant as they celebrate trailblazing work in construction and design, with a focus on how innovative thinking can drive the sector forward. Being shortlisted in the Retrofit category underscores our commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency, values that are at the core of the Domus Campus transformation.
Domus Campus stands as an excellent example of adaptive reuse, where we took an existing series of buildings and transformed them into a multifunctional hub designed to support everything from material exhibitions to collaborative work environments. This ambitious retrofit has allowed us to reduce the environmental impact typically associated with new construction whilst enhancing the space’s functionality.
We believe that retrofitting is an opportunity to reimagine the potential of existing structures. With Domus Campus, we integrated cutting-edge sustainable technologies, including energy-efficient lighting, air temperature control systems, and responsibly sourced eco-friendly materials. This approach resulted in a workspace that consumes far less energy than typical commercial environments, reinforcing the project’s long-term sustainability.
Our shortlisting for this award is a testament to the longstanding collaborative efforts between Mailen Design and Domus Group. Domus Campus stands as a model of how adaptive reuse can contribute to both environmental sustainability and enhanced user experience. By creating dynamic workspaces that promote social interaction and flexibility, we’ve redefined how commercial spaces can serve a range of functions in a single, interconnected environment.
Achieving a fifth award nomination for this project highlights our commitment to pushing the boundaries of retrofit innovation, but also demonstrates that thoughtful design can achieve harmony between sustainability, preservation, and modern functionality.
We thank everyone involved in making Domus Campus a success, and we look forward to sharing some good news after the Building Innovation Awards ceremony in November.
